Securing the 44th Presidential Family

It's no secret President Barack H. Obama is a technophile...
It's also no secret that he's recently gotten to keep his SmartPhone (dubbed the "Obama-Berry", haha)... and that General Dynamic has made it "spy-proof"... right. Anyway, the issue is much wider than the media is alluding to.

In my effort to bring you a fresh angle on everything, consider this. Mr. and Mrs. Obama have 2 daughters... Malia and Sasha are young enough that I imagine they're starting to (if they aren't already) live on MySpace, FaceBook, instant messaging, and social media. Makes sense right? Here's the problem with that - the White House is notoriously techno-phobic.... preventing the President from even having an email account, for fear it would be hacked!

So let's take that angle on the story... the big story isn't that Mr. Obama love his gadgets and gets to keep a specially-made SmartPhone (which I'm glad he fought for, honestly...) - but that his family is about to go into a very different lifestyle - much less connected than perhaps they're used to being.

This raises some questions, and of course there are more questions than answers at this point - but I'd love to hear some of the challenges that Mr. Obama and his wife face with the girls... and having to explain to them they can't just IM their friends anymore ...

National Security is one thing, but keeping our president in the dark ages with respect to technology - that's just stupid. Mr. Obama and his family must stay connected, in a safe way, but to demonstrate to the American public that he's not a relic, he's not "just another president"...
